The room was larger than a lot of rooms in other hotels in Japan. Everything was perfectly clean and well maintained. The room was comfortable with good AC and lighting. The bathroom was excellent, clean and the toilet was especially nice. The room and bathroom are also very well stocked and refreshed every day if you use the sign requesting the room be made up each day. The staff were polite and professional, with the female receptionist speaking perfectly fluent English. The hot tub was worth the extra cost for one night, and the garden is pretty. The location is excellent being in a quiet area of Kyoto, with two bus stops nearby, so you usually have multiple routes you can take to get to places. It's also near the Philosopher's Path which was handy. The free coffee provided each day was also excellent.

We love the room with the private stone garden and view of the exterior garden. The room was beautiful. Great way to experience staying in a Ryokan. The breakfast was also a fantastic way to experience Japanese culture. We asked for no pork and no alcohol meal and they easily accomodate that. There was also Yukata and slippers that we could use and walk around the premises. The bathroom even had facial products for men as well as women. Apart from the hairdryer, there was also an electric hairbrush. It is also closed to Philosopher's Path and you can walk along it that leads to Gingkakuji Temple.

We loved our stay! The room was so nice with tatami flooring and traditional aesthetics. The bathroom was great too! The location was as expected - quieter and away from the central bits of Kyoto, but there are various things to do nearby the hotel, and it was easy to get to with bus. The housekeeping team were very friendly! The male staff member on site who helped us with check-in and check-out was super polite and helpful! Him and the other male staff member also helped us send our luggage to the next city we’re staying in 😊

Calm area. Comfortable beds. Close to grocery store. Close to museums. Pictures on Booking do not do the hotel justice. Note: we booked with breakfast but they could not facilitate gluten free options, something we got told once arriving. We did not get our money back and the chef could not provide us with any breakfast so if you have gluten intolerance book without breakfast and make your own. This is the main drawback with the hotel, but if this is not an issue for you then the hotel is terrific.

We had a lovely stay at Kande. Check in was easy. Costs were explained prior to booking (e.g. to use the onsen) and were consistent when. We got there. The room was comfortable and the sleeping accomodations about what we expected. The garden was beautiful. We had breakfast one morning and it was DELICIOUS/a great experience. The ryokan was convenient to a couple of bus lines so we got around easily.
